How a golf fitting works

Seven steps from palm to swing.

A real golf fitting is not a five-minute swing test and a credit-card swipe. It starts with a tape measure on your hand and ends with a set of clubs built to a spec sheet only you could match. Here is exactly what happens, in order.

The process

Three phases, palm to spec sheet.

Grouped the way a fitting actually runs: measure the player, assess the data, build the club. Nothing skipped, nothing guessed.

01 / 03

Measure

Before a club comes off the wall, your hands and your build set the spec. Cheap to get right, expensive to ignore.

Sets Grip · length · lie
01

Palm size.

Hand width sets grip size. Too thin, the face flips shut through impact; too thick, you can’t release at all. Thirty seconds with a tape settles undersize, standard, or oversize.

~30 secSets grip size
02

Height and reach.

Height and wrist-to-floor set club length and static lie. Off-the-rack assumes a 5′10″ player with average-length arms. If that’s not you, every club in your bag is the wrong length or lie before you’ve swung once.

02 / 03

Assess

Now the launch monitor does the talking. We read your current bag, then let the numbers sort you into a category.

Sorts Your player category
03

Current equipment assessment.

We sweep your bag – length, lie, loft, swingweight, MOI, grip size, every static spec written down. Then you hit each club on the launch monitor. Half an hour in, the numbers show which clubs are doing their job and which are leaking distance or accuracy.

04

Data assessment · your player category.

Swing speed, launch profile, spin window, dispersion shape – the numbers sort you into a player category. That category decides which heads, shafts, and weight ranges are even in play, ruling whole shelves of the cabinet in or out before we touch a head.

Build

Heads narrowed, the work turns physical. Test, optimise, MOI-match, then build to a spec sheet only you could match.

Delivers Your MOI-matched set
05

Equipment recommendation.

Three or four heads come out, each paired with a shaft that fits your category. Fifteen graded shots off each, same conditions as your baseline. The monitor picks the combination that beats your gamer by a margin you can feel, not just read on paper.

Club optimisation.

Head and shaft chosen, the fine-tune starts. Length trimmed to your build, lie bent to your real impact, loft set to a clean gap, swingweight to a tight tolerance. Then the whole set MOI-matched on the Auditor scale, so every iron takes the same effort to swing.

07

Order · two-week wait.

The spec sheet goes to the OEM. Heads ordered, shafts pulled, components shipped to us. We build in-house – tipping, gripping, MOI-tuning, signed off on the Auditor scale. Two to three weeks later, the set is in your hands, ready for the first round.

What we measure

Sixteen numbers, read off the screen.

Every adjustment is driven by a number, not an opinion.
Here’s what the launch monitor and the static rig actually capture during a fitting.

Club delivery

How the club arrives at the ball

01 · Club path
In-to-out / out-to-inDirection the club is travelling at impact. Sets start line.
02 · Face angle
Open / closed / squareWhere the face is pointing at impact. Biggest start-direction driver.
03 · Attack angle
Up / down / levelAscending, descending, level. Drives launch and spin.
04 · Dynamic loft
Real loft at impactWhat loft the ball sees, not what’s stamped on the head.

Energy & launch

What comes off the face

05 · Spin loft
Loft minus attackThe biggest single driver of spin.
06 · Ball speed
Smash × club speedThe single largest correlate of distance.
07 · Smash factor
Energy transferRatio of ball speed to club speed. Centre-strike efficiency.
08 · Launch angle
Vertical departureThe angle off the face. Carry is launch × speed.

Ball flight

What the ball does in the air

09 · Spin rate
RPMBackspin governs height, carry, and stop. Driver low, wedge high.
10 · Spin axis
Tilt · degreesCurvature. Right axis fades, left axis draws.
11 · Carry
Metres flyingDistance before first bounce. What matters into a green.
12 · Apex height
Metres upMaximum trajectory height. Drives stopping power.

Build spec

The geometry of the club itself

13 · Lie at impact
Toe up / flat / toe downSingle biggest contributor to start-line accuracy.
14 · Length
InchesTrimmed to your build. Static plus dynamic, not just standard.
15 · Swingweight + MOI
D-points + g·cm²Static balance and dynamic moment of inertia, matched across the set.
16 · Grip size
Undersize / std / oversizeInfluences face control and tension. Often overlooked.
What it costs

Two ways to start.

Swing & equipment analysis
SGD 50

Thirty minutes on the launch monitor with your current bag. We measure the static specs, capture the launch data, hand you a one-page fitting sheet. No heads pulled, no recommendations beyond what the numbers say.

30 minutes
Category fitting
SGD 150

The full seven steps above, for one of driver/woods or irons. Ninety minutes on the bay, head and shaft testing, full optimisation. Walk every head that fits your numbers, settle on the build, then commission.

Common questions

Three things before you book.

Do you ever recommend the gamer I came in with?
Often. Roughly one in five full fittings ends with us telling the player their current driver or iron set is the right club, sometimes with a shaft change, sometimes with a lie tweak, sometimes untouched. We bill the fitting time. We don’t bill a build that doesn’t need to happen.
Can you fit a whole bag in one session?
No. A full bag fitting is three or four sessions of 90 minutes each – usually driver and 3-wood, then irons, then wedges. We’ll scope a bag-fitting plan after the first analysis if you tell us you’re building from the ground up.
What if I just want my current set fine-tuned?
That’s a different door. See Other services · MOI matching, swing weight, gapping, lie/loft, reshaft & regrip. Standalone treatments for the set you already own.
